We spent a busy two days in Chicago. Most of our time was spent with the Fellows from Northwestern University, Purdue University, and the Indiana University, which was a great reunion for all involved. Before coming to the U.S., the Fellows had met each other at their respective country’s pre-departure orientations held by the U.S. Department of State, so there were many hugs all the way around!
There were site visits aplenty on this trip. We visited our corporate partner Capsim, who had provided licenses to the Fellows at Notre Dame for their business simulation software. 1871 was our next host, a business incubator located in the Merchandise Mart and an inspiring co-working space. Later in the day we met up at SRAM, whose founder spoke about their for-profit business as a high-end bicycle components manufacturer, and World Bicycle Relief, their nonprofit arm which provides bicycles to communities around the world. The visit was capped off by a visit from Assistant Secretary of State Evan Ryan and a lovely reception hosted by SRAM in their awesome space.
Day two began with everyone meeting at PwC in the Loop. We then split up into smaller groups and visited a variety of smaller sites before saying goodbye and having some sightseeing time in the city. Before we knew it, it was time to get back on the South Shore and head back to campus!
