Social Entrepreneurship at its best: Better World Books

Author: Joya Helmuth

Our first site visit of the Fellowship was Better World Books in Mishawaka, Indiana. We spent the morning learning about the history and development of the company, beginning with two Notre Dame grads selling textbooks on campus and growing in less than 15 years to a $75 million operation.

The BWB staff was generous with their time by showing us all areas of the plant, from the intake, sorting, and tracking of books, to the shelving and shipping operation. (Who knew they had a rare books department?) It was an eye-opening and inspiring experience to see a relatively young, profitable, and high growth business doing so much good in the world. Thank you, Better World Books!
