President Obama

500 Fellows arrived on Saturday morning in Washington, DC, from twenty host institutions. They were welcomed at the 2014 Presidential Summit by Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday morning, followed shortly by a town hall held by President Barack Obama. The President spoke on a variety of issues in response to questions from the Fellows, including the importance of good governance, gender equality, debt forgiveness, and the hard work of entrepreneurship—in any country.

The President also announced that the program would be renamed the Mandela Washington Fellowship, in honor of legendary African servant leader and non-violent reformist Nelson Mandela.
